About Us
Green Construction

g r e e n

First, we believe that by

1) continuing our education in the latest building techniques,

2) remaining creative and open-minded to the many changes in construction, and

3) applying innovations to every project

we build superior homes and additions to the highest energy efficiency standards.

We call it quality. Some call it green. But no matter what you call it, the question remains, "is green construction a worthy investment?"

On the one hand, green construction is a better product. A green home uses renewable energy, saves the homeowner money, is healthier to live in and stays that way longer than a typical home. On the other hand, green construction is about being responsible. Reducing carbon emissions, recycling demolition waste and using recycled materials gives us a healthier world. It is for both reasons that Collier Construction uses green building technologies. But then, what does that actually mean?

While there is a growing demand for green construction, the processes and materials are often shrouded in mystery, and a lot of people are wary of greenwashing—promoting green instead of practicing green. That’s why Collier is committed to helping inform the public about green construction.

To begin with, building green is practical. For instance, it’s positioning your home to receive direct sunlight during the winter and shade during the summer. It’s using 4 ft. eaves that keep warming sunrays out of your windows while allowing natural sunlight to brighten your home. It’s insulating the crawl space and using advanced framing to keep good air from escaping your home and mold and mildew from taking up residence.

Though this sounds simple, green construction is more than a band-aid. It is sustainable. That is, the home sustains itself because it’s built to endure seasonal change and utilize the environment. For example, we can irrigate your lawn with rainwater runoff, not city water. We can use the sun to brighten your home and cut down on the use of light bulbs. We can install 100% recycled siding, and in 50 years, recycle it if you don’t like it anymore. Heck, we’ve completely recycled old houses.

You get the idea. Green construction is more than outfitting a house with compact fluorescents or high-quality air filters, it’s about rethinking the entire process from the ground up, then choosing from a host of options what works best.

And most importantly, green building is socially responsible—we are creating homes that our children and grandchildren will inherit. So like any investment, you want its value to increase. While no one can promise that your home’s market value will improve, Collier Construction promises that your children and grandchildren will thank you for making the right decisions. And that’s why we are in the construction business—we love working with customers who are making crucial decisions about the quality of their home.
