One of the many things that sets apart Collier Construction from the typical construction company is our use of Advanced Framing Techniques. The quick and easy definition is simple: a solidly strong way to frame without the excessive use of wood and waste. As a result, we use more insulation which creates a better building envelope.
Well, we have failed almost every framing inspection in which Advanced Framing Techniques were used because inspectors are unfamiliar with the approach. It became a running joke around here, knowing that when we called for an inspection, we would fail. We eventually would pass, but only after much grief trying to convince the inspectors.
Ethan took matters into his own hands. On February 21st, 2008 at the monthly Home Builders Association Luncheon, Ethan invited all city and county inspectors to an informative and helpful presentation on how and why Advanced Framing Techniques are a good thing. And more importantly, Advanced Framing is a better, more sustainable and consumer friendly approach to building homes.
Everyone was very receptive, and we hope to start passing the inspections the first time around. Advanced Framing offers us a better way to build, and we do it to enhance the performance of the homes we build.
