The Little Read House

Structurally Insulated Panels, or SIPs, is the name of the game for this home.  SIPs have been around for over 70 years!! It was first invented in Madison, Wisconsin,  but as the technology gets better, and a greater demand for a more efficient home increases, SIPs homes become more popular.  The high R-Value and air tight construction of these homes lends itself well to sustainability and a green/smarter way to build.

A SIP is a structural panel, in this case Hardi-board exterior and interior finish, with 6" of dense foam in between, that replaces the traditional stick framing we see today.  The walls and roof systems will all be made of SIPs, and will create an extremely air tight, healthy, and efficient home.  Construction will move at a quick pace due to the panels being milled to spec at a factory, and shipped to the job site to be erected.

The home will be slab on grade with the artist's studio also incorporated.  Polished concrete floors, modern design, and clean lines all add to the great character of this truly custom home.  We are very excited to be building our first SIPs home with the McCallie-Johnsons.
